Osaka Science Museum 6m LED Sphere Display - Japan
Client: Osaka Science Museum, Japan
Date: December 2024
Product: LED Sphere Display · 6m Diameter
Project Overview
The museum's new dinosaur planetarium exhibition needed an immersive centerpiece. Traditional flat screens couldn't create the 360° visual experience they envisioned. Custom-shaped LED was the only option — but the tolerance requirements were extremely tight.
Solution
Before manufacturing, we produced a full-size 3D printed plastic mockup so the museum could verify viewing angles and spatial fit. The final sphere uses P4 modules with custom curved mounting brackets. Each panel is individually addressable for seamless content mapping.
Specifications
- 6-meter diameter sphere
- P4 pixel pitch
- 360° viewing angle
- 2mm assembly tolerance
- 450 nits brightness
- Custom curved mounting brackets
- Content mapped for spherical projection
Results
After 8 months of daily 10-hour operation, brightness remains at 98% of original specification. The sphere has become the museum's most photographed exhibit. Average visitor dwell time in the planetarium increased from 3 minutes to 15 minutes.
